It is the summer of the Year of Our Lord 1014, or the year 404 by the Muslim calendar.
Daniyal is in a monastery somewhere in the Kingdom of Saxony. The monastery is remote and far from any larger towns, surrounded only by a handful of villages. Plenty of small rivers run through the area. The climate is pleasantly warm, as it is late summer.
Although most of the monks distrust his strange religion, the Abbott – Brother Gregorius – is tolerant of his foreign ways and curious about the wisdom he possesses.
Sigrid is traveling through Holstein on her way to Saxony as well. She travels with Brother Theo and a small entourage of Danes, headed for the hold of Albrecht on Sydow, whom Brother Theo believes would like to meet with Sigrid.
